Eliza decided she was going to sit there for another song, and then she would leave the cafe. It was so hard to leave for the moment. She could not stop looking at Oscar and the Sally lookalike.
They were the most striking couple there, and she was not the only person looking at them. Because after all Chloe–that was her name, right?–did have the wine splashed at her. Oscar caressed and kissed her nonstop at the table tenderly. Even people from the outside peered at them from their window seat.
When the song was over, Eliza stood to get up, and that was when Oscar turned around and saw her. She got up quickly to leave, as he kissed Chloe’s hand before putting it down on the table.
Seeing that the door was not an option, Eliza rushed to the ladies’ room and realized that was not a barrier. They had fucked in a ladies’ room before–he had followed her in there. Not in a stall, Oscar had lifted her up and placed her on the fancy sink before he entered her. She had held onto him for dear life, and recognized that sentiment now in Chloe.
Oscar followed her into the bathroom.
“Eliza,” he began.
She shrugged.
“There is nothing to say, you do not need to say anything to me.”
Turning to look at her face in the antique mirror, Eliza dug into her bag to reapply her lipstick and then look at him.
“I was going to tell you.”
“Why? There is no need.”
“I tell you everything.”
They looked into each other’s eyes for a long time. No words, just looked right into each other’s eyes–almost through them.
“She needs you, go. Tell me later.”
Oscar still looked at her for a long while. Then he took her hand and kissed it, before he walked out of the bathroom.
Eliza decided one more song before she would walk out of the bathroom too…
