(Flash and) Fleur Friday No. 9

Jeanne sat next to Terrence on her couch, she gave him a minute when he came to her apartment to take her to see Eliza. Terrence texted her to let her know that Eliza had been a passenger in a car accident, that she she saw on the news because of Eliza’s semi-celebrity status.

“I know, I’d been texting her to make sure she was okay,” Jeanne stated.

Terrence explained that she was not really okay, that she was taken to her apartment by her ex-fiancé who had reluctantly told him that Eliza was with him. He was only allowed a few minutes in her apartment, and he said he would come back.

“I think that she might like to see you. But I have to warn you, she is in really bad shape. This is not her first accident, she did not break anything but she is in a lot of pain.”

Jeanne agreed to have Terrence take her to see Eliza, but it felt awkward. But she was her sister, and she wanted to support her. She was all that was left of the father she would never know, and she wanted to get to know Eliza.

Terrence looked like hell when he got to her apartment, which was why she told him to sit down. She sat beside him for a moment, when he got a text.

Come back, was all Eliza had texted him.

Jeanne was startled when she picked up her own phone, and saw Eliza’s name.

Jeanne, sorry to have not texted sooner. I was in an accident, I’m okay, but recovery is hard. I would love to stay in touch with you, but it will be a while before a night like the last one we had!

“Let’s go,” Jeanne said with full resolve.

Eliza needed her.

Jeanne was not prepared at all for the injured body of her sister lying in bed. She was propped up, and her face was blank. Lacking all of the light she had known of it.

And there was a man, dressed in a suit minus the jacket that was thrown on the backseat of his chair. He looked at Jeanne for a very long time.

“I am Eliza’s friend, Jeanne,” she extended her hand.

“I am Rafe, I am taking care of her. Nice to meet you, thank you for coming. You too Terrence,” Rafe turned around to look at the other man.

Jeanne heard the reluctance in his voice. Standing between the two men, Eliza’s life seemed like something ripped from the screen of a soap opera.

At that moment, Eliza saw her and through the pain there was a small smile. Jeanne smiled back, as the sun gleamed on Eliza and the big city outside.
