Night Terrors

Kelly woke up drenched with sweat and crying. She whimpered quietly because she did not want Vance to come into the guest room again for another night.

He had been so good to her with her night terrors. Kelly had not liked sleeping as a child even into being a teenager because of them. She woke up like this—frightened and scared. Vance had not seen her sleepwalk, but that was not uncommon when she was younger. Kelly did not want to scare him, so she cried softly and tried to fall back to sleep. Her tears were a combination of her night terror and the feelings that had been coming to her being here with Vance.

She kept thinking about the one night they had made love here and she wanted to do it with him again. This time because she wanted him. He did not indicate that he wanted anything with her, but he came to the hospital to see her and brought her home with him. He took complete care of her and made her feel safe.

But Kelly wanted to feel wanted by him, she knew he had wanted her but so much had happened to both of them. And he probably felt sorry for her because it was indirectly his fault that she had shot herself in Rafe’s office.

Curling up in the hot sheets, Kelly continued to whimper, flashes of her nightmares flashing through her head like strobe lights. Outside the lights flashed in her otherwise dark room when a car went by.

She sat up suddenly and gasped, covered her mouth when she saw a shadow pass her door.

A knock.

“Kelly, can I come in?” Kelly wanted him to come in and said yes, pulling up her bed sheets realizing she was completely naked. “Are you okay?”

She shook, but nodded.

“Yes, just a bad dream.”

“Do you want me to sleep with you like the other night?”

She nodded, pulling on her thin nightgown which really did not make her that much more clothed, and he got in the bed spooning her.

Kelly fell asleep instantly.
