Morals Intact

I’m sorry.

It was a simple text, but Kelly had to wrote it to Rafe—and Eliza. She had caused them tremendous harm and it made her sick. Especially now that she was with Vance and her morals were back in tact.

He took her home, it was reverse deja vu because he was not taking her home for the steamy sex they had had the last time she was there when she picked him up because she felt alone and hollow…about Rafe. He held her intimately but respectfully as he showed her to his guest room.

Kelly knew about Vance, he was a businessman in the vein of Rafe, and their one night together had reverberating effects on her life. But now with him, she was humbled and felt contrite. He offered to take her in so she would not be alone after she was released from the hospital. Promised he would not do anything to her that she did not want. It scared her because he treated her so sweetly that if she was pre-accident and pre-Rafe she might have wanted something more from him. But because of what she had been through and the way she had kind of used him? It was impossible.

That was why she had texted Rafe. She needed closure, needed him to know she was sorry about everything.

Placing her phone down on top of the newspaper, she saw the phone covered a picture of her and Vance coming out of the hospital. Him holding her hand and Kelly hiding her face but her signature ponytail let anyone who knew her know it was her.

She looked up and Vance stared at her gently. She wanted to cry, but took his hand as he offered it to her like he had in the newspaper photo.
