Remnants of Desire

Vance said he kissed you in the bathroom,” Kelly said, when Eliza walked back to the table.
Before she could even wonder if she would tell Rafe about the kiss, she realized the choice had been made for her. But with her skin still burning from the their furious but brief encounter, Eliza was forced to confront what had happened.
Rafe would not look at her and it hurt her that he would not look her in the eye.
“It was my own fault,” he said, still looking down.
Kelly put her hand over his and Eliza was furious. She  felt a knot in her stomach and continued to look at Rafe for clues. He looked at Kelly and squeezed her hand,
“I kissed Kelly while you were in the bathroom.”
Eliza nodded, picked up her clutch and walked out of the restaurant.
“Eliza!”
She turned around and saw both Rafe and Vance running after her. Rafe was behind Vance, so she took Vance’s hand and continued walking. She did not look back at her husband.
“Eliza, I am sorry, they were kissing when I returned to the table so–”
Eliza dropped her clutch and held his face looking in his eyes and seeing the concern that she had wanted to see in her husband’s eyes. Slowly she kissed him, kissed him for comfort and with the remnants of desire that he had sparked in the bathroom.
Letting go of Vance’s hand, she walked back to Rafe and could see in his eyes that he felt bad. But she knew that he needed to get Kelly out of his system or whatever he needed with her. She put her hand on his cheek.
“Go to her, I want you to deal with this.”
“Eliza–”
“She has been on your mind since she shot herself Rafe–just deal with it.”
“Are you going with Vance?” he questioned.
“I cannot speak for Vance.”
Eliza turned on her heel and the sound of them echoed so loud on the street. She could not speak
for Vance or herself right then.
