The Star On Top

Eliza felt it had been enough time, enough time that she had spent brooding and Oscar made her realize that she definitely wanted to try to make up with Jeanne. She was not sure if Jeanne was going to want to even talk to her, after the scene that she had made at the bar.

But Jeanne surprised her.

She arrived at the cafe where they first met, and she had her hair up and wore her glasses. Jeanne also wore glasses, and had her hair up. They giggled when they saw each other. Jeanne got up from the table, and Eliza was not sure if they were going to hug each other or not. Eliza walked over to her, and curtly kissed her cheek.

Jeanne kissed her back in the same manner, adjusted her glasses and gave her a wan smile.

Eliza sat down, and as soon as she did the waitress walked over with a glass of the wine that she has always loved when she was there. She smiled at the waitress, and raised her glass to Jeanne.

“Thank you for agreeing to see me, I know that we did not end on good terms.”

“You are my sister, I was not a prize that night either. I did not have to flaunt my relationship…”

“I am happily married Jeanne, it should not matter to me. You are my sister, that is what should matter. Can we start over again? Can we try to start over again?”

Eliza studied Jeanne, whose face did not go hard but pensive.

“My mother was like my sister,” Jeanne paused and before she continued, Eliza noticed whenever Jeanne was emotional her accent became very French. “But she was still my mom, and I have very close female friends and as close as we are I am not sure I ever thought about them like sisters. I am sure I have room in my heart for a sister. It would be the star on top of all of my female relationships right now.”

Eliza smiled, and felt her eyes water. Jeanne wiped a stray tear.

“I already love you Eliza, I spent all of this time with you, before this all…” Jeanne waved her hand absently, and picked up her wine. “You’re my blood.”

Eliza picked up her own wine, and clinked it with Jeanne’s.

“I love you too,” she said and meant it.
