Wicked Wednesday #347 — Explore

Eliza hugged Rafe hard when he came home, and pressed her cheek to his chest. He pulled her close and rubbed her back. It had been an emotional plea when she asked him if it was okay to post Harry’s bail, but she was sure that Jeanne was a good judge of character and that Sabrina’s Harry had not committed a crime. Besides the woman in question was still in the hospital.

She was not dead.

But the bail brought up bigger issues for Eliza. Once she and Rafe were a couple and especially as long as they had lived together, it was always what’s yours is mine and what’s mine is yours. But this was so much money and she never wanted him to think she took his wealth for granted. Especially now that she was on a hiatus from work because of her accident.

He held her close still, she was just terribly emotional. He lifted her face up to his, and wiped away a damp tear that was semi-dry on the top of her cheek.

“I love you,” he said, running his hands through her hair.

She looked up at him, she almost started to cry again.

It was just months ago that she was supportive of his marriage to Ingrid, even as that impending marriage brought them closer together and then they eventually got married instead. Or again, because she had been engaged to him forever prior to that. But being married to him was so different. It made everything different between them. It was like some kind of Eucharist—turning wine to blood. Rafe was now transformed from water to blood, he was her family. Everyday was a day to explore that, to explore the dynamic of their connection to themselves and the world around them.

To explore their love.

She wrapped her arms around him,

“I love you.”

  1. That’s a strong connection – it should take them a long way, help them resist knocks and setbacks.
I love this line: “wiped away a damp tear that was semi-dry on the top of her cheek” .
