RETRO: CHRISTMAS CAROL

Rafe held Eliza tight to him, his breath sweet with amaretto from the Disaronno that they put in the eggnog while they listened to Christmas carols on the sofa. Eliza pressed her cheek to his chest, and closed her eyes. She loved feeling this close to him, and sunk deeper into the emotion.

Her phone rang, and she realized she forgot to turn it to airplane mode. A picture of the painting that was in her hotel room with Terrence popped up.

“I have to take this…” she said sheepishly, and grabbed her phone. “Terrence?”

Eliza tried to make her hmmmms unremarkable, and she did several of them with Terrence. She talked in depth about a minor job detail to make it seem like it was a business call.

“I want to curl my fingers in you,” Terrence had said. “I want to curl my fingers in you so I can smell and taste your core…”

She crossed her legs tightly when he said that.

“Okay,” she answered. “I think that is just fine…we will talk about it when we return to work. Okay, bye.”

When she turned to look at Rafe, he looked straight at her. The Christmas carols had stopped.

And so had her heart.

I do love the retro stories—happy holidays! More Wicked Wednesday here:
