“I am only responsible for my own heart, you offered yours up for the smashing my darling. Only a fool would give out such a vital organ”
― Anaïs Nin
Eliza sat on the edge of the stool at the bar, Josephine smiled at her when she saw her.
“Who are you waiting for tonight?” Josephine asked with a smile.
Eliza smiled back.
“Guess…”
Josephine shook her head, before she added.
“Well, I am waiting for someone tonight as well…”
Eliza stared at her friend. Josephine always looked amazing, but this night, she looked more like a pin-up girl than she usually did. Her makeup was flawless, and there was a natural flush in her cheeks.
“Someone special?”
Josephine grinned.
“Guess.”
“Touché!”
Josephine poured her some Laphroaig, and the smoky scent soothed her. Eliza was a bit tipsy, when Oscar got there.
He pulled at his tie when he saw her, kissed her so hard that she sat more on the edge of her stool.
“I always get hard right away when I see you sitting at a bar, reminds me of the first time I saw you…”
Eliza closed her eyes as he kissed her neck, and slipped his hand under her dress.
“I’m completely wet…” she countered, as if there were a competition to see who was more aroused.
“Get a room…” Josephine whispered with a smile, as she put down Oscar’s drink.
Covered in a curtain of Oscar, Eliza remained precariously on the edge of the bar stool as he covered her with his body. It was not until in a moment of lustful drunkenness, that she saw Fiona and Alice. Eliza sat up straight at this point, and Oscar held her as he looked where she looked. Both of their eyes fell on Josephine. Josephine who had been ebullient before the arrival, the other two women became introspective.
Fiona looked at Josephine, who smiled quickly and even more quickly placed their drinks in front of them. Fiona then looked at Eliza who she noticed after a long while with Oscar, at this point once she knew that Rafe and Eliza had an open relationship, she was not as judgmental.
Josephine excused herself to the bathroom. Eliza kissed Oscar passionately, chewing on his lower lip for a long time before she got up and followed Josephine into the bathroom.
Josephine looked in the mirror with wet eyes. She looked on the edge of a nervous breakdown.
“What is the matter babe?”Eliza asked her friend, touching her shoulder.
“She did not tell me and you know? I would not have stayed away because of a girlfriend, but she could have told me…”
“Fiona?”
Josephine stared at her friend, glossy-eyed.
“Who is Fiona? I am talking about Alice….” Josephine asked.
Eliza covered her mouth. She was not sure what to say, and sad she had penalized her sister-in-law to be again.
Josephine covered all of her body that she could, before she walked past Eliza.
Eliza was silent…
