Sabrina at this point had seen Damaris and Gui stop in every bathroom at every stop they had made since they had been out that day. They could not keep their hands off of each other in general, and they escaped to the bathroom for a rendezvous every chance that they got.
The painting that she was looking at in the gallery was just as abstract as Sabrina’s thoughts. Damaris scared her, almost as if she was a ghost. She looked so much like Carole, and she had so much of Carole’s demeanor. But she was not Carole, and she was afraid that Gui thought she was.
They were all grieving.
Disheveled hair and clothes, Damaris walked out of the bathroom first and then moments after Gui walked out. The gallery owner looked up. There was no question what had happened between the two of them.
Sabrina adjusted her sunglasses, happy that they could not see her eyes.
Looking at Damaris reminded her of what it had been like to be intimate with Carole. It felt like a betrayal to Carole that Damaris reminded her of the close relationship she had had with her best friend. Kissing Carole, being tender with her…and then she remembered the declaration of love that Carole had made to her. How would she ever forgive herself for the love that she had not known was there, and that was now gone?
Damaris and Gui looked at each other, and with their hands all over each other slipped back into the bathroom.
Sabrina stared at the abstract painting again, the abstract image reminded her of Carole. Was it because it looked like Carole, or because Carole was on her mind? Still thankful for her sunglasses shielding her tears, Sabrina could feel Carole’s skin on her like web. She was caught in her memories, as the audio of Damaris and Gui’s fucking increased incrementally.
