Wicked Wednesday #320 — Symphony

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 was playing in the background while they waited for food at the cafe. Eliza looked at Jeanne a lot out of the corner of her eye. There was something about Jeanne, she reminded her of someone she knew. At first she could not place it, but then she realized that it was her father that Jeanne reminded her of.

Usually she did not make instafriends with someone, but she was doing okay with Jeanne. She was doing a lot of things his time that she had not done before. Now that she had broken up with Rafe again, and this time she meant it.

She went to the apartment while he was gone and took the things that she needed to live and left everything else. She did not want to fight with him or go through a lot, she just wanted to be separate. She ignored his calls, and this time he did not call as much as he had called her the last time they broke up. This was the third breakup, and this one was more major than the others.

“Are you okay?” Jeanne asked Eliza, turning to look at her as their food arrived.

Eliza had not even smelled the deeply fragrant food that had arrived which let her know that she had not really been sitting there, she had not been present. But she smiled and shook her head.

“I am fine, just a lot going on and I got caught up for a second. Would you like some of mine?” She offered her bowl to Jeanne.

The cafe was Italian and Japanese fusion, after the owner of the same heritage. The food was sensational. Eliza picked up her chopsticks, but nonverbally expressed she would not eat anything until Jeanne did.

That was what Jeanne did that was so similar to her father, well one of the things. She had a quiet manner, and impeccable manners. She was attentive to both Eliza and Terrence.

Terrence caught her eye, and Eliza looked at him squarely before starting to eat after she was satisfied that Jeanne had taken enough of her offered entree.

Then she disappeared again with each bite.

All of a sudden she was not so distraught about not being with Rafe anymore, which had been unfathomable just weeks ago. Eliza was intrigued how seamless their break had been. How easy it was this time, and how eager she was to have something new.

A completely new life with new experiences, and ultimately new people. Her mind raced with possibilities, and Beethoven’s symphony soothed her….
