Wicked Wednesday #341 — Song Title

A tune played in her head, and Eliza did not know the song title. It was a song that she, Terrence and Jeanne had sung tipsily while at the cafe the first time she and Jeanne had met.

It had been a good night, and before her accident, she had been so happy at her solo apartment after what she would thought be her final breakup from Rafe, being with Terrence and having Jeanne as a friend. Even the quick transition to sisters after had been okay, and falling in love with Rafe again.

Now, living in their new apartment and married, she was terribly happy. The strength of her love for Rafe had floored her. She always knew she wanted to marry him, and now she knew why.

But did she want her sister back? Blood was thicker than water, she did not care about Terrence, but Jeanne? Should they try to make amends?

Eliza picked up the phone, still humming that nameless song and called the only person she knew would always be there for her.

“Mrs. Hughes? How are you!”

Eliza felt her face warm, as she took in her new salutation.

Oscar?”

“Where do you want to meet?”

Eliza was still on leave and trying to factor in work she could do from home. It was the post-traumatic stress disorder that was worse than her physical pain from the accident. Oscar took her in, and hugged her for a very long time.

He pulled out a chair for her, and studied her.

“You look happy,” he said finally.

“Yes,” she smiled.

“Marriage agrees with you,” he noted.

“Maybe.”

He took her hand, and she studied him in return.

“How are you?”

“I am okay, Sally…” She squeezed his hand. His ex had reentered his life, and it had been a nonstop ferris wheel from what he told her. “Why did you want to see me?”

“Besides from getting married, have I changed? Jeanne said Rafe told her I had changed but everyone changes. I was wondering if I should try to bring her back, try to be a sister. To be sisters again. I don’t know…”

“Do you miss her? Do you want her back in your life?”

The nameless song still in her head and on her tongue, made her remember a time when she enjoyed being with Jeanne.

Her sister.
