Wicked Wednesday #203 – Go Ask Alice

“Do you have any questions for me?” Alice asked Fiona.

Alice stared at Fiona. She could not explain the way that she felt. There was nothing wrong with her relationship with Fiona. Nothing at all, and maybe that was why she was so defensive. Her prettily made up expression in the ornately framed mirror they had gotten at a flea market in Paris, was strange to her now.

When she fell in love with Fiona, Alice thought that that was going to be all for her. Fiona was beautiful, smart and talented. The life that they had together was the most amazing life Alice could ever have imagined, she went to bed and woke up happy. Fiona treated her like a princess, Josephine had said that she seemed like a princess when she saw her the first time.

Josephine.

Alice could still feel Josephine’s lips on her. From the first time they made out at the auction house, and from tonight at the bar. She took Fiona there because she wanted to see Josephine, but that had been a thoughtless move. The look of hurt on Josephine’s face had been too much to bear, when she saw her with Fiona. When Alice walked into the bathroom later, Josephine was already there and stared at her in the mirror.

“I’m sorry…” Alice had said to her. “I am sorry Jo…”

Josephine turned around, and looked at her. Alice could not say another word. Her head rolled against the wall as they kissed. Her hips rolled toward Josephine’s, when she cupped Josephine’s full breasts in her hands. Alice buried her face in the crook of Josephine’s neck, and Josephine caressed her back softly.

“Your queen is waiting for you…” Josephine said unceremoniously, walking away.

Alice watched Josephine walk away from her, before she turned to the mirror to make sure her lipstick was not smudged. Fiona did not say anything to her when she returned to the stool beside her at the bar, they seemed like the perfect couple as always across from Eliza and Oscar…

…and Josephine.

But as soon as they got into the cab, there was tension. Fiona walked past her and poured herself scotch, as soon as they were in their apartment. She stared at her for such a long time without saying anything, that Alice confronted her.

“Do you have something to ask me?” Alice asked urgently.
“Alice…” Fiona began.

Alice stared at her girlfriend, she would answer any questions that she asked her. She would never lie to Fiona.

“Alice, let’s go to bed…”

The questions that Fiona did not ask were heavy in the air. Alice stood in front of her. Confrontational again.

“What?” Fiona asked, her voice slurred. “I said let’s go to bed.”

And so they did.

I have started a new project, The Verb List, based on this list by Richard Serra.
